Riot police (PTU) fired tear gas towards crowds at eye level, injuring district council member assistant

Police fired tear gas at the Sheung Tak crossroad to disperse crowds at the scene. One of the tear gas hit toe stomach of the assistant of District Council member Ryan Lee. First aiders at the scene provided medical care to her.

Ryan Lee pointed out there was a 7-passenger mini van drove into the crowd at speed along with a group of plainclothes officers holding pepper spray and batons. Ryan was fired by pepper spray in the eyes, whereas his assistant was hit by tear gas. Ryan condemned the lack of discipline by the police and “completely disqualify to serve as the police force for Hong Kong.”

His assistant explained that she was walking towards the police along with other District Council members, hoping to mitigate the confrontation as police kept on insulting civilians. As the police got onto police car and were ready to retrieve, one police officer held a gun horizontally / at eye level, pointing towards civilians. Two commanders pulled him from the back and signalled him to get on the car. Without any warning, the police officer fired tear gas. Before knowing what happened, the assistant saw fire and fell on the ground after that.

District Council member Edmond Tse told that he was wearing orange reflective vest with “Council Member Observer” written on it. He was however yelled at by the police “why need your observation,” “get out” and “you’re not qualified to speak to me.” Police later fired pepper-spray projectile in an open area at Charming Garden, where he suddenly felt immense pain in the stomach and lost consciousness with bruises remaining still now. He denounced the ridiculous act by the police that they treated firing guns as if in video games, such brutality is totally unacceptable, and the operation targeted District Council members.
