Riot police (PTU) enter Fortune Plaza Arcade in Tai Po without search warrant and point paintball gun at podium
On 8th March 2020, some citizens held a public forum and demonstration in Tai Po in the afternoon to oppose the government’s plan to use the Tai Po Jockey Club Clinic as a designated COVID-19 clinic.
At around 4:30pm, Police Tactical Unit (PTU) entered Fortune Plaza Arcade and subdued several people at Treasure Garden. Some citizens were dissatisfied with the entry of PTU into Fortune Plaza Arcade, therefore tried to debate with the security guard. Police officers pointed their paintball guns at the podium of Eightland Gardens and some citizens argued with the officers at the podium of Treasure Garden.
Basic Law Article 27:
Hong Kong residents shall have freedom of speech, of the press and of publication; freedom of association, of assembly, of procession and of demonstration; and the right and freedom to form and join trade unions, and to strike.
Laws of Hong Kong Cap. 383 Hong Kong Bill of Rights Ordinance Article 16:
(1)Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference.
(2)Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice.
