Raptor Squad fire 4 rounds at journalists
At 5pm today, three girls were subdued outside the 85 daily cafe on Nathan Road in Yau Ma Tei by the police special tactics squad (Raptors). We were filming the arrest process, and was stopped by the police. A colleague asked the name of the arrested girl, and suddenly a shot was fired behind us, the projectile hit the subdued girl’s right arm (it is not known whether a pepper spray projectile or a rubber bullet was fired), I raised my hands and screamed “Journalists! Why shoot at us?”. My colleague wore a flourescent reflective vest and my helmet has the word “PRESS” imprinted. After showing that we are journalists, the police squad fired another three rounds. In the lower left corner of the recording, you can see the bullets brushing right in front of us.
Afterwards, a bunch of squad members pushed up from behind, hurling insults and calling the journalists “cockroaches”, hitting the ground with their shields and pushing us forward, an officer pointed his pepper spray at my goggles. He has no warrant card, no ID number, and his face completely masked, it is impossible for us to file a complaint and follow up.
