A water cannon truck indiscriminately released “blue water” infused with what was widely believed to be lacrimator agent on Sunday (20th), dying blue a mosque and Mohan Chugani, former president of the India Association of Hong Kong, who was standing outside the gate at the time. Mohan had burning sensation all over his body and planed to seek treatment at Baptist Hospital, however the attending doctor said the hospital was not informed about chemicals contained in the “blue water” and advised him to approach government hospital instead. According to medical staff of Baptist Hospital, neither the police nor Department of Health had provided information on the nature and the treatment of the “blue water”. “It wouldn’t produce so many symptoms if it’s only water infused with color dye, would it?” Doctors from emergency room of government hospital also said they had not received official information on the ingredients of the “blue water”. They could only resort to treating patients based on clinical presentation, and provide symptomatic relief such as anti-inflammatories and pain killers. They believed the police should be responsible for advising on the ingredients of the “blue water”.
