Junior Police Officer sent letters to LegCo, violating Police General Orders

The Junior Police Officers’ Association (JPOA) chairman Lam Chi-wai claimed on 8 July, in a letter to the LegCo President Andrew Leung Kwan-yin, that two legislators had obstructed police actions and urged the LegCo President to take action on it. Obviously, the two associations were participating in political movements, violating the political neutrality and clearly the Police General Orders.

According to the eighth chapter of Police General Orders, it is prohibited for police officers to join a union, except those formed by solely police officers. These associations’ power draws the line at raising opinions regarding ‘Welfares and Services Conditions’, instead of political opinions.
