Police fire tear gas at a massive crowd during lawful demonstration
Civil Human Rights Front organized a lawful demonstration on 1st January 2020 that received the letter of no objection from police force. However, clashed between protesters and police occurred when the crowd walked pass Hennessey Road and police fired two tear gas canisters into the crowd, followed with flame.
Civilians threw umbrellas, petrol bombs and random objects to police’s line of defense afterwards. Some people formed a frontline with umbrellas at the junction of Hennessy Road and Luard Road. There were elderly feeling unwell due to tear gas, and first aiders assist them with eye washing.
When police fired at least 2 rounds of tear gas at around 5p.m., the demonstration was still going on. But police falsely claimed that they only fired tear gas in Tin Lok Lane at around 7p.m..
