In the evening of 2 November 2019, the Vice-Chancellor of Chinese University of Hong Kong Rocky Tuan was tear gassed when trying to negotiate with the police to rescue his students at police station , he was then escorted away.
Riot police fiery attacked the protesters by firing rubber bullets, while students defended only with umbrellas and rubbish bins. Some protesters were injured, and a man seemed got head shot and lost consciousness lying on ground. The other protesters brought him to indoor area for volunteer first aid treatment. A reporter of Hong Kong Citizen Media was found rolled down a slope after being injured by several shots of bean bag bullets, he was then sent to hospital. According to students of Chinese University of Hong Kong, at least 60 people were injured in the campus.
Until 9pm, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dennis K.P. Ng came to a cease-fire agreement with the police frontline commander and urged the protesters to retreat. However, the police kept firing tear gas, one even exploded right behind Prof. Ng. He felt uncomfortable and put on safety goggle under students’ assistance. According to the students, the police fired total 2356 tear gases, bean bag bullets and rubber bullets in the campus on 2 November.
