Off-duty police officer shot student in the thigh in busy street
Carrie Lam announced this afternoon the introduction of the Prohibition on Face Covering Regulation, banning protesters from masking their faces. This aggravated the situation and citizens took to the streets in many districts to express their discontent. Hundreds of citizens joint in an assembly in Yoho Mall in Yuen Long and later “walked around” along Main Road (Castle Peak Road [Yuen Long]). At around 8pm, people blocked Castle Peak Road (Yuen Long) and the surrounding roads with objects, after which a large number of Police Tactical Unit (PTU) officers arrived and raised black flag (warning crowds of the use of tear gas). Meanwhile a man suspected to be plainclothes officer was said to run a car into a citizen. People immediately surrounded the suspicious vehicle. An armed terrorist got out of the vehicle and had a fight with the people around, before the sound of a gunshot was heard.
According to sources at the scene, a young man was shot in the inside of his left thigh, resulting in profuse bleeding. Citizens immediately rushed forward to punch and kick the terrorist, and threw petrol bombs at him. He had bleeding from his head and his hands were scalded. He noticed he had dropped his pistol and its cartridges as he left the crowd and tried to return to get them back, but at one point the pistol slipped through his hand and dropped on the ground again.
